100 years of Bauhaus

In 2019 we will celebrate the centenary of Bauhaus´foundation. For this purpose, there are going to be special events, exhibitions, festivals and much more to discover. Come on a journey with us to celebrate the centenary and visit the real Bauhaus building in Dessau, have a walk through Weimar´s Bauhaus University and see the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin.

The Bauhaus art school was not only a school; it was rather a new, revolutionary perception of art, an important piece of German modernism. The Bauhaus school had a rather tough and short time. After the foundation in 1919 in Dessau, the school was relocated to Weimar, then to Berlin. After only 14 years it had to be closed down in Berlin under the narzi´s pressure. Yet, the idea and style of Bauhaus was spreaded even after closing the institution and is still to be found in the present days.

The idea of Bauhaus means to combine art and technique, to create art by bringing different kinds of arts together such as design and architecture. Buildings that were built in the this style were supposed to improve the standard of living of the average person, a rather rational way of building but with a twist of art.
